Veolia covers various sectors such as water, waste, energy and environmental services, each with its own specific needs. The applications were designed at different times, by local teams or external service providers, with no global alignment. Interfaces, technical architectures and workflows vary enormously, making unification difficult.

Context

Veolia's use of design tokens, based on standardization and consistency of digital interfaces, aims to standardize the visual elements and behaviors of digital products.

Team

The product team is positioned at the intersection between user needs, technical requirements and the company's strategic objectives. It works closely with Veolia's technical, business and operational teams.

Problematic

Inconsistencies between the interfaces of Veolia's business applications stem from the multiple operational, historical and geographical contexts in which these solutions were developed. These discrepancies can adversely affect the user experience, brand perception and process efficiency.

Solutions

To integrate design tokens efficiently, we have implemented a technological infrastructure that facilitates their use on a large scale. Tokens are exported in standard formats such as JSON, SCSS, or directly integrated into tools such as Figma Tokens.

Results

Simplified maintenance: if a color or typography changes, simply modify the centralized token. All products using this token are updated automatically.Accelerated development: Teams no longer waste time recreating styles for each product. Reinforced consistency: Users intuitively identify interface elements, enhancing the experience. Adoption by design and tech teams, who are now integrating tokens into their daily work tools.
